i heart faces ~ Favorite January 2011 Photo

Song for a Fifth Child

Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth
empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
hang out the washing and butter the bread,
sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I've grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew
and out in the yard there's a hullabaloo
but I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren't her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
for children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

I was reminded of this much loved poem when I shot this stunning photo of my best friend dozing off while rocking her youngest son.  I thought it to be a sweet sentiment that is all too fleeting...to forget about the things we think we "must" do and to remember the things we "ought" to.

Like spending the time to cuddle our little ones, before they are not so little anymore.

I love this. Yes, the lighting is perfect, but you caught one of those fleeting moments that moms hold in their hearts forever. I can almost feel the weight of my kids in my arms, even though it was long ago!

Can I say how perfect this is for me? I'm working on my Master's and my husband is traveling. I just got done with this weeks work and still had dinner dishes and night time tidying up to do. My youngest says "Mommy, you better come lay with me..." I thought, he's right. So, the cleaning, dishes and tidying will wait. He's laying in my arms right now.

Thanks for stopping by.

I love this shot... so soft and dreamy. I could easily picture a page in a really nice glossy book with both this photo and the poem right underneath it --just like it is here in yiur post. :)
